Deal agreed after weeks of negotiations

La Liga champions Barcelona have finally landed their long-term target Rodri after weeks of back-and-forth with Manchester City. The Blaugrana announced a breakthrough in talks on Sunday, with market journalist Fabrizio Romano reporting: “RODRI TO BARCELONA, HERE WE GO! Deal agreed for Spanish midfielder to join Barça from Man City, all done for the former Ballon d’Or winner.”

The 30-year-old informed Real Madrid of his desire to link up with Hansi Flick’s Blaugrana instead of moving to the Spanish capital, prompting the Camp Nou board to thrash out terms with the Etihad club ahead of the final year of his contract.

Fee breakdown

Journalist David Ornstein revealed the precise breakdown of the sum involved. Barcelona will pay a total of €76.5 million (£65.3m; $87.8m) for Rodri, made up of:

• €60m guaranteed
• €11m+ in highly achievable bonuses
• €5m in more difficult to attain bonuses

That means the club is set to pay at least €71.5m up front with the highly achievable add-ons.

Barcelona have agreed to a four-year contract with the World Cup winner, tying him to the club until 2030.

Busy day at Camp Nou

The Rodri agreement comes fresh off Deco and co. sealing a deal for João Cancelo, with reports confirming the Portugal defender is returning to Barcelona for a third spell after terminating his contract with Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.

The move will see Rodri link up with many of his Spain team-mates from World Cup 2026, including Pedri, Gavi, Dani Olmo, Joan Garcia, Eric Garcia, Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsi.
