Barcelona Eye Nine-Point Gap Over Real Madrid as El Clasico Caps a Gruelling Week

A Season-Defining Seven Days

Barcelona are at the beginning of a key week in the 2026-27 season, with two of the biggest games of the campaign arriving back-to-back. First comes a Champions League trip to face PSG and Luis Enrique's side at the Parc des Princes, before attention turns to El Clasico at the weekend.

The stakes could hardly be higher: a victory over Real Madrid on Sunday would see Barcelona move nine points clear of Los Blancos.

Injury Woes Complicate the Fixture Pile-Up

Hansi Flick must plan for both matches without a fully fit defence. Jules Kounde and Eric Garcia are missing through injury, and Andreas Christensen is also unavailable, prompting the call-up of 18-year-old Alex Campos for the midweek European tie.

There is some relief, with Gerard Martin confirmed in the travelling squad despite a knock picked up against Real Betis. Joao Cancelo, Xavi Espart, Alejandro Balde and Pau Cubarsi complete the defensive options named, while Rodri or Frenkie de Jong could be pressed into central-defensive duties if necessary.

Managing the Load

Balancing a demanding Champions League away day against the emotional intensity of a Clasico, all while patching together a backline, will test the depth of Flick's squad. How Barcelona emerge from the week could shape the entire title race.
