Cancelo back at Barcelona for third spell after Al-Hilal pay-off
Cancelo back at Barcelona for third spell after Al-Hilal pay-off
Joao Cancelo is heading back to Barcelona for a third spell with the club after agreeing to terminate his contract at Al-Hilal in order to secure a return to Camp Nou.

The Portugal international will re-join Hansi Flick's side after a bright loan spell last season where he managed to force his way into the starting XI following his arrival in the winter window. With his return now all but confirmed, attention turns to the rest of the backline and whether the squad is now fully stocked at the back.
Where Cancelo fits in Flick's defence
Cancelo will now join Alejandro Balde as Flick's options at left-back, while the German coach looks set to choose from Eric Garcia, Jules Kounde and Xavi Espart on the opposite flank. Pau Cubarsi, Gerard Martin and Andreas Christensen are the central defenders available, with Kounde and Eric also able to play in the middle and Alvaro Cortes potentially set to be promoted from Barca Atletic to bolster the options further.
The question on everyone's lips
With the Portuguese full-back's return seemingly settled, Barcelona's Barca Blaugranes community has posed the question: do Barça still need to sign another defender after Joao Cancelo, or is the backline now complete? It remains to be seen whether sporting directors consider the current crop sufficiently deep to cope with a demanding campaign across all competitions, or whether one more addition will be targeted before the window closes. Now it's over to the fans to share their thoughts, opinions and answers.
