Fernandes, Gakpo and Dorgu Suffer Injuries as Nations League Toll Mounts
Bruno Fernandes, Cody Gakpo, and Patrick Dorgu have joined a growing list of high-profile casualties during the expanded autumn international break after suffering injuries during Nations League duty.

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes was left out of Portugal's matchday squad against Norway on Sunday. Prior to the encounter, manager Jorge Jesus revealed that the playmaker had played through the pain barrier during their win over Wales earlier in the week.
"He played with an injury he brought from Manchester United," said Jorge Jesus. "He wasn't his usual self. He really wanted to play against Wales."
Meanwhile, Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo lasted just 16 minutes before being forced off during the Netherlands' 2-1 victory over Serbia. Gakpo, who has enjoyed a strong start to the campaign with two goals and four assists in six games across all competitions, was seen grimacing and clutching the lower part of his right leg.
United wing-back Patrick Dorgu was also substituted after only 30 minutes, limping off during Denmark's 2-0 victory against Wales.
Widespread Injuries Mount Across Extended International Window
Gakpo's issue compounds injury headaches for Liverpool, who also saw striker Alexander Isak withdraw from the Sweden camp due to a minor thigh injury. Despite scoring and playing the full 90 minutes in Sweden's 2-1 win over Romania, Isak will miss the remainder of their fixtures to undergo assessment on Merseyside.
The current international break spans three weeks, replacing the traditional October window and seeing nations contest four fixtures rather than the standard two.
Club managers across Europe face mounting fitness concerns from the heavy schedule:
- Kai Havertz was substituted for Germany after being caught on the knee by Quinten Timber during their draw with the Netherlands.
- Brian Brobbey sustained a muscle injury in the same fixture shortly after scoring a hat-trick for Sunderland against Manchester City.
- Dan Ballard suffered a hamstring strain in Northern Ireland's 1-0 win over Georgia and has been ruled out of their upcoming matches.
- Jamal Musiala withdrew from Germany's lineup following a muscle problem sustained during the pre-match warm-up.
- Kylian Mbappé faces at least two weeks on the sidelines after injuring his knee while scoring the winning goal in France's triumph over Turkey.
