Anthony Gordon picks Lamine Yamal and Harry Kane for 2026 Ballon d’Or
Gordon splits loyalties between Barcelona prodigy and England captain
Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon has named Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal and Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane as his top two picks for the 2026 Ballon d’Or.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Gordon said the race is essentially between the two stars, with Kylian Mbappe also in the conversation.
“For me, it has to be one of the two in terms of what they’ve achieved,” Gordon said. “What Lamine’s achieved at such a young age. The kind of player he is, is ridiculous. He’s on a whole other level right now. For a 19-year-old to be doing what he’s doing is crazy.”
Gordon was equally bullish about Kane’s case, pointing to the striker’s record-breaking campaign.
“But if we were talking off last season, H has got as big of an argument as anybody because his season was historic,” he added. “The amount of goals he scored, the things he’s done for us within the World Cup, they both have large arguments. So I wish them both the best of luck.”
England vs Spain clash looms
Gordon is currently with Kane and the England squad for Nations League fixtures. The Three Lions are set to face Yamal and Spain on Saturday night, setting up a direct meeting between the two Ballon d’Or contenders Gordon has backed.
