Barcelona's Roony Bardghji suffers ruptured ACL, faces six to seven months out

Barcelona Confirm Bardghji ACL Rupture

Roony Bardghji

Barcelona have confirmed that 20-year-old forward Roony Bardghji will undergo surgery in the coming days after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee during a training session.

The injury comes at a particularly unfortunate time for the Swedish international, as he was reportedly set to leave Barcelona on loan for the 2026-27 season. Instead, Bardghji is now expected to spend the next six to seven months on the sidelines recovering from surgery.

Second ACL Injury in Three Years

This marks the second time Bardghji has suffered the same injury, having previously sustained an ACL tear in 2023 while playing for Copenhagen. The recurring nature of the injury raises concerns about the player's long-term fitness and availability.

During his first season at Barcelona, Bardghji made 28 appearances across all competitions, though only 10 were starts. He managed to score two goals and provide two assists despite limited playing time.

Loan Move Now Off the Table

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick had revealed last week that he intended to discuss a potential loan move with Bardghji, as he could not guarantee first-team minutes in the 2026-27 campaign. The club had recently signed Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi, pushing the young winger further down the pecking order.

In anticipation of the loan move, Bardghji had been left out of Barcelona's recent friendlies against Nottingham Forest and Udinese to avoid any injury before completing the transfer. However, the injury sustained in training has put those plans on hold indefinitely.

"First-team player Roony Bardghji has suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee," Barcelona's official statement read. "The player will undergo surgery in the coming days."

Multiple clubs across Europe, including several Premier League sides, had reportedly been made aware of Bardghji's availability. However, with his rehabilitation now required, Bardghji will remain in Spain to complete his recovery process rather than pursue a loan move away from the club.
