Barcelona set unwanted Champions League record in 4-1 Galatasaray win as Flick hails Yamal
Barcelona maintained their perfect start to the 2026-27 campaign with a 4-1 comeback victory over Galatasaray in the Champions League at RAMS Park on Tuesday night — but the result was accompanied by an unwanted slice of club history.
The Catalans fell behind early in Istanbul before turning the League Phase clash on its head. Fermín López, Anthony Gordon, João Cancelo and Karim Adeyemi were all on the scoresheet as Hansi Flick's side recovered to claim all three points, extending their remarkable run to 10 wins from 10 games across all competitions to open the new season.
Flick: "We're very happy with the result"
Speaking to Movistar after the final whistle, Flick admitted satisfaction with the performance while stressing that his team still have room for improvement in the final third.
"We're very happy with the result. We also played well in the first half. They had one chance and they scored. We managed to come back and that was very important," Flick said.
"I think that in the Champions League, when we played well, in some situations, we didn't make good decisions in the final third. That's something we need to improve. In this stadium, with this atmosphere, it wasn't easy, but I'm very happy."
Praise for Lamine Yamal
The standout creative force was 19-year-old Lamine Yamal, who did not get on the scoresheet but registered a brace of assists, supplying the final pass for two of Barcelona's goals.
"Lamine didn't score today, but he did provide the final pass for two goals. He's an incredible player and very important for us," Flick added.
Flick has been a vocal admirer of the teenager throughout the campaign; on 2026-09-10 he publicly backed Yamal for the 2026 Ballon d'Or after Barcelona's 5-1 Champions League rout of Feyenoord.
An unwanted record
For all the attacking fluency, the defensive frailty will concern Flick. According to Foot Mercato, cited by Get Spanish Football News, Barcelona's first-half concession in Istanbul means the club have now gone 17 consecutive Champions League matches without keeping a clean sheet — the worst such streak in the club's history in the competition.
Despite the unwanted landmark, the Blaugrana's form remains spectacular, and they now return to Spain to face Real Betis in La Liga.
