Barcelona distance themselves from Inácio reports

Barcelona have moved to cool speculation that they are close to signing Sporting CP defender Gonçalo Inácio. Reports had suggested the Portuguese international was attracting strong interest from the Catalan club, but Barcelona sources have now denied that negotiations are at an advanced stage.

Surprise benching fuels transfer speculation

Inácio’s unexpected place on the bench for Sporting’s Portuguese league match against FC Alverca triggered the latest round of rumours. The identity of any potential buyer has not been established, with AC Milan also mentioned as a possible destination.

Barcelona’s interest is plausible from a squad-building perspective. The left-footed centre-back could provide an option alongside Pau Cubarsí, while the departure of Ronald Araújo has left the club looking lighter in central defence. Barcelona are understood to be assessing late-window reinforcements, although signing a striker remains the club’s stated priority.

Deco visit adds to the uncertainty

Barcelona sporting director Deco was recently in Lisbon, adding another detail to the speculation. His visit was initially linked to interest in Sporting forward Luis Javier Suárez, but reports have questioned whether discussions over Inácio may also have taken place.

There is no confirmation that Barcelona are negotiating for the defender. Rúben Amorim’s previous relationship with Inácio at Sporting has also helped drive links to AC Milan, but the current reporting does not establish that a transfer to Italy—or Barcelona—is imminent.
