Barcelona midfielder Pedri has declared that Sunday's El Clasico against Real Madrid represents the "greatest motivation" for his side as they seek to respond to their first defeat of the season.

The Catalan giants tasted defeat for the first time this campaign in midweek, going down to PSG at the Parc des Princes in the Champions League. Rather than dwelling on the setback, Pedri believes his team can turn the experience into an advantage when they welcome their fiercest rivals to town.

Pedri's rallying cry

Taking to Instagram, the midfielder issued a rousing message to supporters ahead of the blockbuster fixture.

"Coming back to victory in #ElClásico is a great challenge and the greatest motivation," he wrote.

"In front of PSG we compete, in front of a great rival and on a great stage, and we know the way. We have confidence and we have football. Here we go!"

Pedri's words underline a squad that is raring to go, with the midfielder making clear that the disappointment of the Paris loss has only sharpened the focus ahead of El Clasico.

Team news ahead of El Clasico

Barcelona are set to welcome Rodri back to the starting XI on Sunday for El Clasico, with the midfielder having been given something of a breather against PSG in midweek.

However, head coach Hansi Flick is still expected to be without Eric Garcia, Jules Kounde and Andreas Christensen for the match.

Dani Olmo has also been sidelined after sustaining an injury against PSG, adding to the selection headaches facing Flick as he prepares his side for one of the biggest fixtures of the season.

A season-defining challenge

The midweek defeat in Paris ended Barcelona's unbeaten start to the campaign, making the timing of El Clasico all the more significant. With Real Madrid the visitors, Pedri's message suggests a group determined to use the setback as fuel rather than a source of doubt.

For Barcelona, the challenge is clear: respond to their first loss of the season by delivering a statement result on the grandest domestic stage of them all.
