City assess possible De Jong approach

Manchester City are reportedly considering a late move for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong as the transfer window enters its final week.

The claim comes from El Chiringuito reporter Jose Alvarez, who said on X that City “likes De Jong a lot” and is examining whether to make an offer. Alvarez added that the English club wants to continue strengthening its midfield and is assessing De Jong’s physical condition before deciding whether to act.

Injury could shape decision

De Jong is currently sidelined by a knee ligament injury, and there is no confirmed timetable for his return. That uncertainty appears to be central to City’s evaluation of any potential deal.

The midfielder could also face increased competition for a starting place at Barcelona following the club’s reported signing of Rodri. Manchester City, meanwhile, have already spent more than £100 million on Elliot Anderson and are preparing further investment in Ayyoub Bouaddi, but the club is still believed to be looking for additional midfield options.

Any approach remains speculative at this stage. The report says City are analyzing the situation and could decide this week whether to submit an offer, rather than confirming that a bid has been made.
