We concede too many - Xavi Espart and Rodri demand defensive fix before PSG test

Barcelona's perfect start masks defensive frailties, warn Espart and Rodri

Barcelona's remarkable run of 11 consecutive victories continued on Saturday night as they defeated an in-form Real Betis 5-2 at one of the toughest grounds in La Liga to stay top of the table. But behind the free-scoring swagger, two of the squad's key voices have sounded a warning.

Barcelona players celebrate during a La Liga match

Speaking to DAZN after the match, Xavi Espart praised the result but admitted concern at the number of goals his side are shipping.

"We're an attacking team, but I feel we still concede too many goals," Espart said. "We should keep clean sheets in important matches. Sometimes, we're so attacking that we leave ourselves exposed at the back. We have to improve defensively."

His assessment was echoed by Rodri, who was pleased with his own contribution in sealing the win.

"I'm very happy with the victory because this is one of the toughest grounds in the league and because Betis are in good form and played a great match," Rodri explained. "I'm also happy with my goal, which gave us peace of mind when things were at their worst. The team always shows its attacking potential, but we're conceding quite a bit, and that's where we can improve."

Injury concerns for Flick ahead of PSG

The defensive worries are compounded by fitness issues. Hansi Flick confirmed after the game that Gerard Martin, Eric Garcia and Jules Kounde all picked up knocks and will be assessed ahead of Tuesday's Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain.

With a trip to the French capital looming and the backline already stretched, Barcelona's attacking riches will need to be matched by greater solidity at the back if they are to navigate the PSG test unscathed.
