Barcelona's hunt for a number nine continues

Barcelona kick off their La Liga title defiance on Sunday away to Elche, and the question on everyone's lips is who will lead the line for Hansi Flick's side. The Catalans' infamous search for a number nine still hasn't delivered a high-profile signing, leaving the coach with the attacking options currently within the building.

Flick has plenty of possibilities in Anthony Gordon and Raphinha (both deployed as strikers during pre-season) as well as Karim Adeyemi, but 18-year-old Hamza Abdelkarim has made the strongest individual case with four goals and several eye-catching performances over the summer.

The youngster remains unproven at the top-flight level and is still expected to represent Barça Atlètic this season, but the unique circumstances of the opening match — with several key starters out of rhythm and no recognised striker in the squad — make it very plausible that Flick gives him a huge opportunity.

So, should Hamza start against Elche in Barcelona's La Liga opener? The question is now open for supporters to debate.
