Arsenal target defensive cover while Chelsea prepare for a major squad clear-out
Arsenal continue to search for two additions
Arsenal want to sign a defender and an attacker before the September 1 deadline. Ezri Konsa remains the leading defensive target, although Aston Villa’s £60 million valuation is viewed as too high. Arsenal have also explored Jarrell Quansah and Marc Pubill, but Bayer Leverkusen and Atletico Madrid are reluctant to sell.
The club’s attacking focus has been on the left wing, though Arsenal would consider a right-sided forward if the right opportunity emerges. Kenan Yildiz and Julian Alvarez are long-term targets, while the club’s pursuit of Igor Tyjon, the 18-year-old Blackburn Rovers striker, remains unresolved after several bids were rejected.
Myles Lewis-Skelly is not seeking a move away and is focused on breaking into the Arsenal team. Gabriel Martinelli also rejected the prospect of joining Galatasaray after the Turkish club offered €45 million. There are no active negotiations between Arsenal and Galatasaray over Victor Osimhen.
Several Arsenal players face uncertain futures
Fabio Vieira and Reiss Nelson were omitted from the Community Shield squad and are wanted by Hamburg and West Ham United respectively. Martinelli, Ethan Nwaneri and Gabriel Jesus were also left out, with Nwaneri’s pathway potentially blocked despite Arsenal’s recognition of his ability.
Chelsea’s priority is reducing the squad
Chelsea completed the signing of Pep Chavarria from Rayo Vallecano, but their main focus is now on outgoings. With no European football this season, the club wants to reduce an oversized squad and avoid having too many players without regular minutes.
Enzo Fernandez remains a prized asset despite the expiry of a verbal £120 million agreement that could have facilitated a move to Manchester City. Chelsea are reluctant to strengthen a Premier League rival and may now demand more than £120 million because the midfield market has risen.
Nicolas Jackson is valued at £65 million, Liam Delap at more than £50 million and Marc Guiu at £25 million. Chelsea want about £100 million for Pedro Neto, while Axel Disasi is close to a move but could leave initially on loan with an obligation or option to buy. Benoit Badiashile has joined Napoli on loan with a €27 million purchase option.
Other players expected to move include Omari Kellyman, David Datro Fofana, Caleb Wiley, Deivid Washington and Shumaira Mheuka. Mykhailo Mudryk, Tosin Adarabioyo and Mamadou Sarr also have loan interest.
