Jonathan Tah has delivered a glowing verdict on Jurgen Klopp's first days as Germany head coach, insisting the squad is ready to "walk through fire" for the 59-year-old after an immediate impact that has already won over the dressing room.

Klopp's tenure began with a 1-1 draw against the Netherlands, with Cody Gakpo's stoppage-time equaliser denying the former Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund boss a winning start. Germany now turn their attention to their first home fixture under the new regime, hosting Greece at the WWK Arena in the second game of their Nations League campaign.

A dominant Dutch display

Germany may have been fortunate to escape with a point, with Xavi — also making his international bow in the dugout — masterminding a dominant second-half display from the Oranje. The Netherlands finished with an expected goals (xG) total of 2.6 from their 14 shots after the break, while restricting Germany to a tally of 0.2 from just five attempts.

Despite the statistical gulf, Tah is confident Klopp is the right man to take Germany forward, pointing to his record at Dortmund and Liverpool as the foundation of his faith in the new boss.

"It's the experience he brings from every club, that mix of fun and passion, that absolute will to win, and also the way he brings the team along. He can really fire us up," Tah said.

"I think after our initial meeting, everyone walked out thinking, 'Okay, we're ready to walk through fire together now'. He just has this ability to galvanise a team. We've seen that in the past too. That's something he does exceptionally well, and I think that's why he's been so successful."

Wirtz called up early and backed to fire

Klopp's plans have already been complicated by injuries, with Kai Havertz and Jamal Musiala sidelined after picking up knocks against the Netherlands. Florian Wirtz and Jonathan Burkardt have been called up a game earlier than expected to fill the void.

Wirtz has come under fresh scrutiny for a string of underwhelming performances so far this season, managing just one assist in six appearances across all competitions at club level — though his 12 chances created are the third-highest total in Andoni Iraola's squad. The former Bayer Leverkusen forward is yet to hit the heights he reached in the Bundesliga, but Tah has backed his international teammate to rediscover his spark.

"I find it pretty extreme the way he's been attacked," Tah said of Wirtz. "I know the kind of player he is and that he's going to shine even more. I know what he's capable of and, eventually, everyone will understand."

With Greece next up on home soil, Klopp's Germany will hope to deliver the kind of statement performance that eluded them in the Netherlands — and, if Tah's assessment is anything to go by, they will do so with a squad firmly behind their new leader.
