England's World Cup Journey: Kane's Call for Improvement Ahead of Semi-Final

England captain Harry Kane has admitted there is still "another level" to reach as the team prepares for their World Cup semi-final against Argentina on Wednesday. The Three Lions secured a hard-fought 2-1 extra-time victory over Norway in Miami on Saturday, but head coach Thomas Tuchel criticized their performance as "sloppy" and "lucky."

Harry Kane leads England in World Cup preparations

Kane, who has been part of four major semi-finals with England, emphasized the team's need to improve while also celebrating their historic achievement. "We know we can play better," he said. "But right now we want to enjoy this. The preparation will come for the next game. And we will try to improve with the ball as much as possible."

"He (Tuchel) sees us train and sees the closeness of us and sees what we can do, especially with the players we have, the way we attack, our one-on-ones and the skills. He just wants to see that version of us."
The England captain praised the team's resilience, citing their comebacks against DR Congo, Mexico, and Norway as evidence of their fighting spirit. However, he acknowledged the need to refine their ball control and decision-making under pressure. This will be England's fourth World Cup semi-final in history, following previous appearances in 2018, 2020, and 2024. Kane expressed confidence that the team can finally secure a World Cup title this time around: "We’re knocking on the door. We’re getting to these semi-finals and finals. It’s a big week. We’ve got eight days left on this tournament."
