Freiburg extend Bundesliga lead as Kaisuke Goto sinks 10-man Schalke

Freiburg continue at the top of the Bundesliga and in fact extended their lead from where they stood at the start of the weekend, despite playing a chunk of the second half with 10 men against Schalke.

Kaisuke Goto's 85th-minute header was the result of two substitutes combining, with the legendary Vincenzo Grifo teeing him up with a perfect cross.

“It doesn't feel particularly special because it's the start of the season,” a circumspect Matthias Ginter told DAZN — a remark that says a lot about Freiburg's increased ambition under Julian Schuster.

The result keeps Freiburg on 13 points from five games, with a goal difference of 10, at the summit of the early table.
