Iraola hails Araujo's battling display after Liverpool beat Brighton 2-0 at Anfield
Iraola praises Araujo after dominant Anfield display
Ronald Araujo produced another impressive showing for Liverpool on Sunday as the Reds beat high-flying Brighton 2-0 in the Premier League at Anfield.
The defender’s love affair with the Reds continues. Araujo’s battling display earned further praise from manager Andoni Iraola, who made clear just how highly he rated the Barcelona loanee’s performance.
What Iraola said
“It helps a lot [to have Ronald],” said the Liverpool head coach in his post-match press conference. “I think we all enjoyed watching Ronald fighting. I think he’s very good in the duels.”
Iraola pointed to the opening goal as evidence of Araujo’s impact:
“Even the first goal, I think he wins two duels in a row, he arrives at the byline and after, it’s not an assist, but it’s worth an assist. And defensively, I think he’s been really, really really good.”
The manager also noted Araujo’s professionalism after recent minutes management:
“I’m happy for him because I’ve taken him out in the last two games, because we needed more offensive things, at half-time and he has continued working with no issues and today we needed him more. He has given a very, very good 90 minutes.”
Table impact and future talk
The win moves Araujo and Liverpool up into fourth place in the Premier League table and maintains the defender’s strong start to his career in England.
There’s already been talk that he could potentially stay on past the end of the season, although Araujo has made it clear it’s too early to talk about the future just yet.
