Tielemans Calls for Unity as Man Utd's Winless Run Stretches to Five After Atletico Defeat

Youri Tielemans has called on his Manchester United team-mates to stay united and keep believing in their structure after the club's campaign sank to a new low in midweek.

The Red Devils were beaten 2-0 by Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano on Tuesday in the Champions League, a result that left them without a win in their last five games across all competitions.

Pablo Barrios opened the scoring with just 47 seconds on the clock, and things went from bad to worse for United when Leny Yoro was sent off in the 79th minute. Ademola Lookman then capitalised on the dismissal to seal a comfortable triumph for the Spanish side.

Numbers Behind the Slide

United have now lost three of their last five games in all competitions (D2) — as many defeats as they suffered in their previous 21 matches under Michael Carrick (W14 D4). Their five-game winless run is their longest stretch since a six-game streak in January 2025 (D2 L4).

A testing trip to Leeds United in the Premier League is up next, and Tielemans knows his side must regroup quickly.

Tielemans: We Must Keep Trusting Each Other

Tielemans, who joined Old Trafford from Aston Villa this summer and is still adapting to his new surroundings, insisted his team-mates must continue to trust one another if they are to turn their fortunes around.

"We did well in spells and our character and energy was very good," Tielemans said. "It is very hard to say after a defeat that there are positives.

"We just have to work hard, to keep working and keep trusting in our structure. We have to keep working, keep trusting each other and be together on this.

"[It is a] tough one. When you concede after a minute it is hard to get into the game straight away.

"We had more compactness at times. At times we were found out as they had the quality and were going to play through us."

With the pressure mounting on Carrick, United will be desperate for a response when they travel to Elland Road.
