Cissè's Historic Hat-Trick Fires Milan to 4-0 Win at Salzburg as Leverkusen Run Riot
Teenager steals the show in Austria
Milan cruised to a 4-0 Europa League victory at Red Bull Salzburg on Thursday, courtesy of a hat-trick scored by Italian teenager Alphadjo Cissè. Club-record signing Gonçalo Ramos made it four on 72 minutes before a red card for Filippo Terracciano took some of the sheen off the win for Ruben Amorim's men.
The commanding away performance followed a rocky spell for Milan, who had been under pressure after a home defeat and a stuttering run in Serie A. Reporting earlier in the campaign, Football Italia described how the Rossoneri had been under scrutiny following a 2-0 home defeat to Benfica and just one win in their previous four Serie A rounds, with Alexis Saelemaekers and Matteo Gabbia long-term absentees.
Cissè's treble was a career first for the 19-year-old and marked a historic Europa League hat-trick. Ramos, the club-record signing, then added Milan's fourth on 72 minutes, though Terracciano's dismissal left Amorim's side to see out the closing stages a man down.
Schick doubles up from the spot as Leverkusen stay top
Bayer Leverkusen sit atop the standings as they followed up their opening 2-0 win with a 4-0 success at Polish side Lech Poznan.
Czech striker Patrik Schick was on target twice from the penalty spot in the first half, either side of a Malik Tillman goal, to ensure the points were wrapped up for Carles Martínez's side before the interval. Ibrahim Maza added a late fourth.
Real Sociedad held in Brussels
Real Sociedad followed up their matchday-one loss at home to Bournemouth with a 1-1 draw at Union Saint-Gilloise.
Elsewhere on the night, Celtic were due to travel to Lisbon to take on Benfica, while Celta Vigo were set to host Italian giants Juventus.
