Fulham have completed the signing of Gonzalo Garcia from Real Madrid in a deal worth £34m (€39.7m), with manager Alvaro Arbeloa hailing the young striker as "one of the best strikers in the world."

The 22-year-old has signed a five-year contract with the Cottagers, with the club holding an option for an additional 12 months. Garcia becomes Arbeloa's first signing since the former Real Madrid coach took charge at Craven Cottage.

Garcia played under Arbeloa last season after the Spaniard replaced Xabi Alonso at the helm of Real Madrid. In the 2025-26 campaign, the forward scored eight goals and provided three assists across all competitions, though he could not help Madrid secure any silverware.

However, Garcia's standout performances came at the Club World Cup last summer, where he finished as joint-top scorer in the competition with four goals. Only Angel Di Maria, Serhou Guirassy and Marcos Leonardo matched Garcia's tally, while his five direct goal contributions were the joint-most in the tournament, alongside Michael Olise and Cole Palmer.

Arbeloa, who clearly knows the player well from their time together at the Bernabeu, was effusive in his praise for the new arrival and expressed his delight at beating off competition to land the striker.

"I hope he can bring goals, but obviously he has pace, he has quality, he's strong, he can run, he can press, so for me, he's one of the best strikers in the world with an amazing future," said the Fulham boss.

"I'm so happy because I know there were so many things that he wanted, and he decided to join us, so I'm so proud and really happy to have him with us."

Fulham begin their Premier League campaign on August 24 against local rivals Chelsea, who are now managed by Xabi Alonso — the man Arbeloa replaced at Real Madrid. The reunion of Garcia, Arbeloa and Alonso in a West London derby adds an intriguing subplot to the opening weekend of the new season.
