Lewandowski Fires Chicago Fire to Sixth Straight Win as Houston Dynamo Top Western Conference

Lewandowski Pens Penalty to Sink Griezmann's Orlando

Robert Lewandowski scored the winner from the spot as the in-form Chicago Fire battled to a 2-1 victory over Antoine Griezmann's Orlando City, making it three straight MLS wins and six consecutive victories in all competitions — the club's best such run since 2001.

Robert Lewandowski celebrates scoring for Chicago Fire

Puso Dithejane put the Fire ahead after just four minutes at Inter&co Stadium, but a 100-minute weather delay disrupted Chicago's momentum and Orlando capitalised early in the second half. David Brekalo turned in from a superb Antoine Griezmann corner to draw the hosts level, and Orlando looked poised to build on the equaliser.

Yet Lewandowski won a penalty in the 68th minute and, a moment later, stepped up to convert beyond Maxime Crepeau, nudging his league goal tally at Chicago to three. The Polish striker proved the decisive figure on a night where Griezmann, despite the defeat, led the game for shots (four), chances created (five) and touches in the opposition box (seven).

Surging Chicago are now third in the Eastern Conference, sitting four points off second-place Inter Miami. The defeat extended Orlando's winless run to four successive matches in all competitions, with all of those games coming on home soil.

Houston Dynamo Go Top of the West with Fifth Straight Clean Sheet

Franco Negri's goal was enough to see the Houston Dynamo edge out the Vancouver Whitecaps 1-0, sending Houston to the summit of the Western Conference.

The Dynamo became just the third team in MLS history to win five consecutive games without conceding a single goal, though they were perhaps fortunate that Vancouver failed to convert their opportunities. The Whitecaps created chances worth 1.42 expected goals and managed 17 shots, but only one of those attempts was on target.

Houston have now scored in eight straight league games, having not been shut out since May, and their defensive resilience combined with attacking consistency has made them the team to beat in the West.
