Bruno Fernandes' Cheshire home burgled while Man Utd captain in Italy for Como clash
Break-in at Cheshire property
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes had his home burgled on Wednesday while he was in Italy with the club for their Champions League fixture against Como.
It is understood Fernandes' family were not in the Cheshire house when it was broken into, and that the intruders were inside for less than five minutes before police arrived. United are understood to be supporting the 32-year-old following the break-in. BBC Sport has contacted Cheshire Police about the incident.

Latest in a string of player burglaries
Fernandes is the latest footballer to have his family home targeted while playing away from home. Manchester City defender Ruben Dias and his then partner Maya Jama had their Cheshire home burgled in similar circumstances in January, when Dias was at City's Champions League game against Galatasaray. Previous victims in the same area include Jack Grealish, Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez.
Como humiliation deepens United's crisis
The break-in came after a torrid week for the club. United were beaten 4-1 by Como in the Champions League, and following the match Fernandes criticised manager Michael Carrick's tactics. He will, however, remain as club captain and will not be disciplined for his comments.
The 4-1 defeat in Italy piled further pressure on Carrick. According to reporting published on 22 October 2026, United's press office prevented Fernandes from answering Sky Sport Italia in Italian after the loss, with pitchside reporter Pierluigi Bagnulo saying officials “feared they wouldn't understand his words.” The loss also prompted a public contradiction between Fernandes and Carrick over the club's direction.
The Portugal midfielder has been with Manchester United since joining from Sporting in January 2020.
