Bayern Munich suffer Konrad Laimer injury blow ahead of Supercup clash with Borussia Dortmund

Bayern Munich have been dealt an injury blow ahead of the new season after Konrad Laimer was forced off just 10 minutes into their Telekom Cup victory over RB Leipzig on Saturday.

Vincent Kompany's side earned a 3-1 win over Leipzig to lift the pre-season trophy thanks to goals from Luis Diaz, Nathaniel Brown, and Jamal Musiala. However, the triumph was overshadowed by multiple fitness scares, with Laimer, Kim Min-jae, and Musiala all having to be substituted with concerns.

The most pressing concern centers around Austrian international Laimer, who suffered a heavy blow to his right thigh early in the first half and was unable to continue walking without assistance.

Speaking after the match, Bayern sporting director Max Eberl confirmed that the midfielder's withdrawal was not merely a routine precaution.

"Konny took a knock relatively early on," Eberl told Sport 1. "It quickly started to swell up, so he was taken off as a precaution. He could no longer walk and had to be supported. Things weren't completely fine."

Eberl added: "I can't say how long he'll be out for. The situation is currently being examined in more detail."

The setback comes at an inconvenient time for the German champions, who are scheduled to face rivals Borussia Dortmund in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup next weekend before kicking off their Bundesliga title defence against VfB Stuttgart on August 28.
