Barcelona dismiss reported interest in Sporting CP forward

Barcelona have categorically denied reports linking them with a move for Sporting CP forward Luis Suárez, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Suárez had emerged as a reported option for Barcelona after scoring 38 goals in Portugal last season. The speculation came amid the Catalan club’s search for a new centre-forward and its difficulty convincing Atlético Madrid to sell Julián Alvarez.

However, the reports were quickly rejected by sources within Barcelona. The club’s position was summarised as follows: “Sources within the Catalan club categorically deny (any interest in Suárez), stating that their primary and total commitment remains with the Argentine striker from Atlético Madrid (Julián Alvarez).”

Barcelona’s denial makes clear that, despite considering alternatives in the wider market, Alvarez remains the club’s preferred attacking target.
