Getafe's Johan Mojica sets La Liga record with 15th consecutive defeat to Barcelona
Getafe defender scripts unwanted chapter of La Liga history
Johan Mojica secured for himself an altogether unwanted piece of Spanish football history in Getafe's most recent outing, after the defender was on the losing side yet again against Barcelona.
José Bordalás's Getafe made the trip to the Catalan capital on Saturday evening to lock horns with Hansi Flick's rampant, table-topping Barcelona. When all was said and done at the Spotify Camp Nou, the Azulones became just the Blaugrana's latest victims, condemned to the wrong side of a 3-0 scoreline.
The 34-year-old Mojica featured from the off in the fixture, deployed on the left of the visitors' backline. And as a result of his eventual loss, the Colombian made history of the wrong kind.
As revealed by Spanish football statistician Fran Martínez: "Mojica's record. He is the player who has faced Barcelona the most times in La Liga while ALWAYS losing (15 out of 15)."
Barcelona's demolition underlines the gulf
The defeat extended a miserable personal run for Mojica against the reigning Spanish champions and underscored Barcelona's relentless early-season form. As reported on 11 October, Flick's side completed a perfect start to the La Liga campaign with the 3-0 victory, and in doing so posted 787 accurate passes — the most by any team in a single Spanish top-flight fixture over the last five seasons, eclipsing Real Madrid's 768-pass mark set against Getafe in May 2023.
Gordon opened the scoring after just 78 seconds for his first La Liga goal, as Barcelona made light of a demanding run of five matches in two weeks with a controlled win from start to finish.
For Mojica and Getafe, however, the headline remained a solitary, unwanted statistic: fifteen meetings with Barcelona in La Liga, fifteen defeats.
