Eric García: Flick has told me I'm playing right-back this season
Eric García has revealed that Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has already told him where he will be playing for the season ahead — and the answer is right-back.
The Spain international, speaking after Wednesday's Joan Gamper Trophy match, confirmed that the club's coaching staff view him as a right-sided defender this campaign, a role he has grown increasingly comfortable in after thriving there last season.

From centre-back to first-choice right-back
The former Manchester City stopper is naturally a central defender and spent the bulk of his career operating in the middle of the backline. However, his stellar versatility allowed him to thrive in an unfamiliar berth out wide last season, racking up 32 starts en route to Barcelona's latest La Liga title.
In the process, Eric effectively displaced Jules Koundé as the club's first-choice right-back in Catalunya's capital — and, based on his latest comments, he appears set to continue in that position moving forward.
'I feel very comfortable and happy'
Asked about his plans for the year ahead during a media appearance after the Gamper Trophy match, the World Cup winner explained what Flick had told him:
"I'm naturally a centre-back, but Flick told me I'm going to play as a right-back this year. I feel very comfortable and happy playing there. I still have room for improvement of course, but I feel very well as a right-back, too."
The clarity over his role will come as a boost to Eric, who now knows exactly where he fits into Flick's plans as Barcelona prepare for the defence of their league crown.
