Deadline day 2026: Enzo Fernandez seals £125m move to Manchester City as Hull sign seven

Premier League finale dominated by City spending spree

The 1 September 2026 deadline produced one of the most expensive 24 hours in Premier League history, with Manchester City rebuilding its midfield and rivals reacting late as the window slammed shut.

Transfer deadline day action in the Premier League

Manchester City completed the headline deal of the window with Enzo Fernandez moving from Chelsea to the Etihad for a reported £125m at 23:50 BST, shortly followed by Iliman Ndiaye arriving from Everton for £65m at 21:00 BST. The double swoop underlined City’s intent to refresh the midfield after a busy summer.

Hull City’s record haul

Hull City emerged as the busiest Premier League club on deadline day, landing seven players in the final hours. Tim Iroegbunam joined from Everton for £22m at 22:05, Brooke Norton-Cuffey arrived from Genoa for £12m at 22:15 and Hugo Larsson came in on loan from Eintracht Frankfurt at 22:30.

The Tigers also added Christos Mouzakitis from Olympiakos, Sorba Thomas from Stoke, Chema Andres from Stuttgart for £15.5m and Ilyas Ansah from Union Berlin, completing a squad overhaul designed to push for European contention.

Crystal Palace and rivals move late

Crystal Palace added depth late on, bringing in Ben Chilwell from RC Strasbourg at 00:10, Dario Osario from FC Midtjylland on loan at 01:05 and Quinten Timber from Marseille at 00:45, while also completing earlier business.

Aston Villa secured Taylor Harwood-Bellis from Southampton for £29m at 12:30 and Ibrahim Mbaye from Paris St-Germain for £47m at 11:30. Newcastle added Matias Fernandez-Pardo from Lille for £51.4m at 15:00.

Other notable switches

Jack Grealish returned to Everton on loan from Manchester City at 22:50, while Tosin Adarabioyo moved from Chelsea to Tottenham at 23:15. Mykhailo Mudryk also joined Tottenham on loan from Chelsea at 22:00.

Defensive reshuffles continued with Kevin Danso going on loan from Tottenham to Sunderland at 20:00 and Ainsley Maitland-Niles signing for Everton from Lyon at 00:00. Zian Flemming completed a £20m reported move from Burnley to Ipswich at 23:30.

Juan Riquelme Angulo joined Sunderland from Independiente del Valle for an undisclosed fee at 01:01, rounding off a busy night for the Black Cats.

Business continued across the English Football League, Scottish Premiership and Women’s Super League through the final week of September, with a mix of free transfers, loans and undisclosed deals adding depth to clubs up and down the pyramid.
