Parkinson praises Wrexham dignity over 'Spygate' after dramatic 2-1 win against Southampton
Phil Parkinson commended Wrexham for maintaining their dignity through Southampton's 'Spygate' fallout after his side secured a dramatic 2-1 Championship victory over the Saints at the Racecourse Ground.

The Red Dragons narrowly missed out on the play-offs last season, finishing in seventh place. They held hopes of inclusion when Southampton were expelled from the play-off final by the English Football League (EFL) after an intern was caught spying on Middlesbrough's training sessions, alongside incidents involving Oxford United and Ipswich Town. Southampton were also handed a four-point deduction for the current campaign.
Pre-Match Sparring and Co-Owners' Video
Tensions were playfully reignited ahead of kickoff when Hollywood co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney shared a satirical 59-second video promoting shirt sponsor Firefox. In the clip, Reynolds joked about "the importance of privacy," while McElhenney quipped about preventing spies from monitoring activities.
Addressing the video post-match, Parkinson said: "It's a bit of humour and obviously I've seen it. Some people will find it humorous; obviously, people in Southampton are not going to.
"But listen, as everybody knows, we kept our counsel around that time because we were the team which missed out. We accepted the EFL decision with great dignity. It was tough at the time because we could have had as strong a case as anybody to be in those play-offs."
Southampton manager Tonda Eckert was unimpressed prior to the match, remarking: "You can imagine that the whole situation is not particularly funny for me, but I think that's all there is to say."
Late Drama Seals Vital Points
On the pitch, Kieffer Moore gave the home side the lead with a first-half header, before James Ward-Prowse equalised for Southampton. The contest looked set to finish level until the 89th minute, when Jacques Ekomie delivered a cross that Southampton defender Keven Schlotterbeck turned into his own net.
The late winner handed Wrexham their first home league victory of the season, lifting them level with Southampton on 10 points after eight matches and offering a spirited recovery following a heavy 6-0 loss to West Ham United.
"It feels amazing. First of all, I'd like to thank our supporters," Parkinson added. "The reception they gave me as I walked across the pitch before the game meant a lot, and I think our supporters have had tough times and they're used to bouncing back. That's what it's all about, the club, the supporters, the staff, the owners, the players, everybody's linked together, and you could feel that today."
