Rodri comments on Madrid derby red card debate

Barcelona star Rodri has weighed in on the refereeing controversy following Atlético Madrid’s 2-1 victory over Real Madrid at the Metropolitano.

The win for Diego Simeone’s side came thanks to goals from Alejandro Grimaldo and Jonathan David, but was overshadowed by two first-half challenges involving Lee Kang-in and Cristian Romero that Real Madrid argued warranted straight red cards.

When asked by COPE about the incidents, the Spanish international said: "I think Cuti’s is more difficult because I don’t know whether he can pull his foot away or not, and maybe Kang-in Lee’s, which I honestly don’t think he did on purpose, maybe that one could have been a red. I think referees can make mistakes sometimes."

Rodri’s remarks keep the debate alive over whether Atlético could have been reduced to 10 men in the derby.
