Maitland-Niles errors cost Everton as Hull fight back for a point
Two defensive lapses prove costly
Everton missed the chance to claim their first away league victory since February after drawing 2-2 with Hull City. Ainsley Maitland-Niles was involved in both of Hull’s goals, first failing to intercept a pass that allowed Sorba Thomas to set up Joe Gelhardt for the opener.
Everton recovered to take the lead, but Maitland-Niles then allowed Elliot Stroud too much room near the corner, enabling the Hull player to find Mohamed Belloumi for the equaliser.
Points dropped after comeback
The draw was particularly frustrating for Everton because they had scored twice away from home and turned the match around, only to surrender their advantage. With attacking options limited, the missed opportunity to secure all three points added to the disappointment.
