Kylian Mbappé has put El Clásico rivalries firmly to one side, revealing his deep admiration for the talents of Barcelona sensation Lamine Yamal in a wide-ranging interview with French outlet L'Équipe.

The Real Madrid forward, who like Yamal played a leading role in his side's opening Champions League victory this week, was asked which players excite him most in the modern game. After initially hesitating to single anyone out, the 27-year-old made an exception for the 19-year-old Spain international, whom he described in glowing terms.

"Which players excite me right now? I don't want to name names because if I forget someone… To say who the ten or fifteen best players in the world are, I think everyone would agree. Among the youngsters, Lamine Yamal. He has everything."

Mbappé and Yamal have dominated headlines across world football in recent days. Both fired their respective clubs to three points as their European campaigns got underway, and both feature prominently on the 30-man shortlist for the 2026 Ballon d'Or, where they are considered among the very favourites to lift the coveted prize.

Their rivalry was also given a global stage at the FIFA World Cup, where France and Spain met in a memorable semi-final — a fixture which has only sharpened the spotlight on the two superstars.

Nor did Mbappé stop at Yamal. Asked to identify the young talents destined for the top, the French captain ran through a list of names he believes will shape the next era of football.

"I also like Estevão; he has a special creativity. Here, Arda Güler can go very far. Endrick has potential; he's a goalscorer. Warren (Zaïre-Emery) and Désiré (Doué) are going to have great careers, for sure."

The comments offer a rare glimpse of mutual regard between the two rival camps, with Mbappé's assessment of Yamal — a World Cup winner at just 18 — set to further fuel the narrative that the pair are the defining footballing figures of their generation.
