Paul Pogba is set to leave Monaco by mutual agreement, having made just six appearances for the club since joining last summer. Talks are ongoing between the player and the Ligue 1 side to terminate the two-year contract agreement after only 12 months.

The club had hoped to get the 33-year-old midfielder — a World Cup winner with France in 2018 — back to his previous fitness levels, but feel they have not been able to achieve that goal. Monaco's concerns over Pogba's physical condition have been compounded by a hamstring injury sustained on Tuesday at St. George's Park, where the club are based during their pre-season tour of England. It is feared that the injury may sideline the midfielder for several months.

However, discussions over the mutual termination of his contract have been ongoing for several weeks, suggesting the decision is not solely driven by the latest setback.

A Tumultuous Return to Football

The former Manchester United midfielder joined Monaco on a free transfer last summer, having been a free agent since leaving Juventus in November 2024. Pogba's debut for Monaco came in November 2025 — his first appearance since September 2023, a gap of 26 months — following a ban for breaching anti-doping regulations.

The central midfielder had initially been given a four-year ban in February 2024, which was later reduced to 18 months on appeal by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). That ruling meant he was eligible to return to training in January and resume his playing career in March.

Illustrious Career Now in Doubt

Pogba began his youth career at Le Havre before joining Manchester United as a teenager. He has made 91 appearances for France but has not featured for the national team since 2022. He is also a four-time Serie A winner with Juventus, having played 190 times for the Turin club across two spells.

With his Monaco stint seemingly coming to an abrupt end, questions now linger over whether the 33-year-old will be able to find a new club willing to take a chance on him given his recent injury and fitness struggles.
