Woltemade extends Europa League scoring streak in Turin

Nick Woltemade continued his scoring run in the Europa League as Juventus were held to a 2-2 draw by Stade Rennais at home. The Germany international converted a penalty after the interval to secure a point and maintain the Turin side’s unbeaten start in Europe.

Woltemade, who is yet to start in Serie A this campaign, started again in Europe for Juventus. The hosts took an early lead with Zeki Celik converting from Woltemade’s through pass.

Rennes hit back twice before half-time. Former Stuttgart striker Boulaye Dia scored a penalty, and the visitors led going into the break as Juventus risked a second successive home defeat.

After the restart, Nico Gonzalez, who also had a stint for the Swabians, won a penalty at the other end. The 24-year-old converted himself to keep Juventus’ Europa League start unbeaten.

Luciano Spalletti’s side thought they had claimed a late winner when substitute Jhon Lucumi was involved in a goal, but the strike was ruled out by VAR for offside.

Woltemade was one of the standout performers in the draw and will hope the display helps him regain the form that led to a big-money move to Newcastle United from VfB Stuttgart. Juventus will face Lecce and Genoa away from home before hosting Napoli in Serie A on the first day of November.

Behrens nets seventh Conference League goal as Lugano stun Getafe

Over in the UEFA Conference League, Kevin Behrens scored his seventh Conference League goal of the season as Lugano stunned Getafe with a 5-2 win away from home.

The former Union Berlin and Wolfsburg attacker netted the final goal of the game in his third appearance back from injury. The 35-year-old has now scored six times in three qualifying ties during the preliminary round.

The Swiss Super League leaders began the league phase with back-to-back wins after the emphatic victory in Spain.
