Serie A’s Champions League hopes take early hit after four clubs collect just four points
Italian clubs face an uphill climb after two rounds
Serie A’s four representatives have made a difficult start to the 2025-26 Champions League league phase, combining for just four points across their opening two matches. Como account for three points and Roma one, while Inter and Napoli are yet to get off the mark.

According to figures highlighted by Gazzetta dello Sport, 16 points were enough to finish in the top eight and qualify directly for the Round of 16 in each of the previous two Champions League editions. With 18 points still available to each club, the Italian sides have little margin for further slips if they are to reach that threshold.
The prospect of progressing through the knockout play-offs is no guarantee either. The report notes that in the past two seasons only two teams advanced to that stage after losing their first two league-phase games: Milan in 2024-25 and Benfica in 2025-26.
Next fixtures bring immediate tests
Napoli are due to host Bodø/Glimt and Roma to host Slovan Bratislava on Tuesday. Como welcome Manchester United on Wednesday, while Inter host Shakhtar Donetsk.
