Jose Mourinho believes his Real Madrid team are "progressing in every aspect" following their pre-season win over Deportivo de A Coruna. The victory saw Los Blancos win the Teresa Herrera Trophy, with Brahim Diaz scoring the decisive goal at Estadio Abanca-Riazor.

Positive Signs Despite Missing Players

Madrid's squad showed encouraging signs with Vinicius Junior captaining the side, while Bernardo Silva, Denzel Dumfries and Endrick all started for the club. Mourinho's side were comfortable throughout, conceding just 0.34 expected goals (xG) and no big chances in the victory.

Madrid's Impressive Pre-Season Record

Real Madrid have won three of their four pre-season games under Mourinho (with one draw), and the Portuguese coach is pleased with their work so far ahead of the new season. "The team is progressing in every aspect, but obviously, the difficulty of the matches, as we've planned with this goal in mind, is increasing," Mourinho told the club's media channel.

Mourinho on the Intensity and Preparation

"It was great to come here, with this atmosphere. We know that these summer tournaments are worth what they're worth," Mourinho said. "The home team, due to tradition and culture, wants their trophy. Competing in this way is very good training for us."

"It was a serious match against a team returning to La Liga. This trophy holds great tradition for them, and they gave it their all. They forced us to play seriously; it was a tough match."

Final Preparations Before the Season

Mourinho acknowledged that several key players remain absent from the squad. "There are five players working at Valdebebas who weren't here, and you already know who they are. We're taking it step by step, and next week, we'll be serious," he explained.

Madrid face Schalke in their final pre-season match before their 2024-25 LaLiga campaign begins on August 22 away to Espanyol. Mourinho's first home game in the competition following his return to the role comes against Real Sociedad four days later.
