Real Madrid hammer Sevilla 4-1 as Mbappe double and Diomande stunner light up Bernabeu

Madrid make it back-to-back LaLiga wins in style

Real Madrid followed up their dramatic Champions League win over Roma by scoring four goals once again as Kylian Mbappe netted twice in a 4-1 victory over Sevilla at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday. "Real Madrid put together back-to-back LaLiga wins on Sunday as Kylian Mbappe continued his fine form with two goals against Sevilla," the match report noted.

Sevilla start brightly but Madrid take control

Sevilla started brightly at the Estadio Bernabeu, with Robbie Ure's glancing header saved by Thibaut Courtois before Ruben Vargas fired just wide of the left post on the swivel. Federico Valverde's shot from distance was then inadvertently cleared by Mbappe, but Madrid opened the scoring in the 30th minute in some style.

Yan Diomande drove down the left before laying the ball back to Arda Guler, who curled a sensational strike over Odysseas Vlachodimos. Jose Mourinho's side doubled their advantage seven minutes later through Mbappe, with the Frenchman collecting Jude Bellingham's neat flick on the turn before rounding Vlachodimos and rolling the ball home.

Chidera Ejuke, a half-time replacement for Sevilla, almost made an instant impact but could only fire over before Diomande pulled his shot wide at the other end moments later.

Mbappe and Diomande seal the rout

The hosts pulled further clear just after the hour when Mbappe was tripped inside the penalty area by Andres Castrin, with the Madrid number 10 stepping up and confidently dinking the resulting spot-kick down the middle.

Sevilla did not let their heads drop and got themselves on the scoresheet in the 80th minute when Manu Bueno dispossessed Mbappe before playing a neat one-two with Lucas Stassin and curling into the bottom-left corner. However, any hopes of an unlikely Sevilla comeback were ruthlessly ended by Diomande, who capped a fine individual performance with a stunning strike that rifled into the top corner and sealed an emphatic victory.

Mbappe haunts Sevilla again as Diomande breaks Bellingham's record

The attacking emphasis was largely resting on the shoulders of Mbappe with Vinicius Junior serving the first of his four-match suspension following his red card against Villarreal for pulling Nathan Saliba's hair, and he delivered against one of his favourite opponents. "Mbappe has now been involved in six goals in five LaLiga games against Sevilla (five goals, one assist), scoring in four different matches against them," the report detailed.

It is the ninth penalty Mbappe has won since joining Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain in 2024. In that time, only Ante Budimir (12) and Serhou Guirassy (10) have won more penalties among players from the top five European leagues.

But there was also a standout display from Diomande, who became the first player under the age of 20 (19 years and 338 days) to both score and assist in the same LaLiga match with Madrid in the 21st century, surpassing Jude Bellingham's previous record (20 years and 51 days). Diomande also provided an assist in two consecutive matches in all competitions for the first time in his career in the top five European leagues.

His performance was key in helping Madrid accumulate an expected goals (xG) total of 2.24 from their 15 shots to Sevilla's 0.75 from their 11 attempts.
