Jamal Musiala confirms absence seizure diagnosis after second on-pitch collapse

Bayern star opens up on neurological condition after frightening double collapse

Jamal Musiala of Bayern Munich

Jamal Musiala has revealed he is suffering from "easily treatable" seizures after collapsing on the pitch for the second time in the space of a few days, confirming he has been diagnosed with a neurological dysfunction.

The Bayern Munich playmaker collapsed just six minutes after coming on as a substitute in the club's 4-2 friendly victory over Heidenheim on Tuesday. The incident came only four days after Musiala had suffered a near-identical episode during a match against RB Leipzig.

Speaking publicly for the first time about the issue, Musiala took to social media to reassure supporters that he is in good health and that the problem has now been identified and is being treated.

"I've been diagnosed with temporary, brief, but easily treatable absence seizures, which are due to a neurological dysfunction," he explained. "These can lead to the recent episodes, like the one against Leipzig or now in Heidenheim. I know they seem scary at first glance – but for me, they're currently just part of my everyday life."

The Germany international insisted he remains upbeat about his situation and grateful for the support around him as he manages the condition.

"I'm receiving excellent medical treatment and am very optimistic. FC Bayern and my family and friends are always by my side and supporting me on this journey," Musiala said.

A turbulent period of injury setbacks

The seizures are the latest in a run of health and fitness troubles for the 23-year-old. Musiala missed the majority of last season after breaking his leg during the Club World Cup, an injury that severely disrupted his campaign.

Despite those struggles, he still featured 24 times for club and country in the 2025-26 season, contributing five goals and six assists, though only 12 of those appearances came as starts. Musiala now faces the task of managing his neurological condition while working his way back towards full fitness and regular football.
