Eberl Sees "Zero Reason" for Bayern to Spend in January: "We're Totally Happy With the Squad"

Eberl: Bayern Will Not Shop in Winter

Bayern Munich will not dip into the January transfer market, sporting director Max Eberl insisted on Thursday, telling reporters he sees no reason for the German champions to act mid-season.

"We're totally happy with the squad, totally happy with the players," Eberl said at his pre-match press conference ahead of Bayern's meeting with RB Leipzig. "I see absolutely zero reason why we should act in January. We have players who are currently at their top level."

Eberl acknowledged that some members of the squad have yet to reach peak form, but argued that the group is close to clicking — and that a turnaround would render any winter spending unnecessary.

"[Additionally] other players who haven't reached their top level yet," he said. "When everyone reaches their top level and we go on a run, then I don't see why we should act [in January]."

Reports of Winter Rebuild Cooled

Eberl's comments run contrary to recent speculation about a January rebuild at the Allianz Arena. According to reporting dated 27 September 2026, Bayern were said to be monitoring Barcelona's Dani Olmo and Atlético Madrid's Marcos Llorente as potential targets, with the club reportedly launching a worldwide search for reinforcements after a quieter-than-usual summer window.

Sky Germany have since confirmed that, contrary to those reports, Bayern's likelihood of spending in January is extremely low.

Kane Extension Nearly Done

The one piece of business still being worked on is Harry Kane's future. The England captain is set to extend his contract with Bayern, with the new deal running until 2029, and Eberl indicated that only minor items remain to be ironed out.

Kane has been in strong form in the Bundesliga this season, registering three goals and three assists in his first five appearances of the 2026-27 campaign.
