Marcus Rashford has returned to Manchester United's pre-season preparations, with Michael Carrick welcoming the forward back into the fold and affirming his place in the squad ahead of the upcoming campaign.

Rashford spent the 2025–26 season on loan with Barcelona, enjoying a productive stint in Spain where he scored eight goals and provided seven assists across 32 appearances. During his stay in Catalonia, the 28-year-old helped the club secure both LaLiga and the Supercopa de España, notably scoring a memorable free-kick against rivals Real Madrid in the fixture that clinched the domestic league crown. However, Barcelona opted not to make his move permanent, instead securing the signing of Anthony Gordon.

Following a previous loan spell with Aston Villa in 2024–25, Rashford has now reported back to Manchester United's pre-season camp. The English forward, who has scored 87 goals and provided 40 assists in 287 appearances for the Red Devils, was praised for his positive mindset upon his return.

Carrick Backs Rashford to Provide Attacking Spark

"He's our player. He's come back great, like any other player," Carrick said when asked about Rashford. "I've known him a long time, he gives us something a bit different. He's been in great spirits since he's been back, he's been back two or three days."

United were in pre-season action in Dublin on Wednesday, earning a 5-4 penalty shootout victory over rivals Leeds United following a 1-1 draw over 90 minutes. While Bruno Fernandes missed his spot-kick, defender Noussair Mazraoui converted the decisive penalty to seal the win.

"It's nice to score the winning penalty, but even in friendlies, the aim is to win the game," Mazraoui told MUTV. "I think the best way to prepare for the full season is to go into every game to win. Even here, you can feel the rivalry of this game. It was an amazing atmosphere. I feel fresh and I'm ready to begin the new season."
