Amorim urges patience with Milan teenager Cisse ahead of Bournemouth clash

Amorim tempers hype around Alphadjo Cisse

Ruben Amorim has urged the media not to put pressure on AC Milan teenager Alphadjo Cisse, insisting the 19-year-old still has a long way to go despite a rapidly growing reputation at the club.

Alphadjo Cisse of AC Milan

Hat-trick against Salzburg

Cisse has made a name for himself in the Milan first team this season, most notably with his display against Salzburg in the Europa League. He scored a hat-trick in a 4-0 win over the Austrian side, which gave Milan their first win in the competition this season. With his treble, Cisse became the youngest Italian player in the history of major European competition to score a hat-trick.

Amorim: "Football is a rollercoaster"

Ahead of Milan's trip to Bournemouth in the Europa League, Amorim eased expectations around the youngster.

"I think we shouldn't blow the situation out of proportion and put pressure on the youngsters," said Amorim. "We need to help them understand that football is a rollercoaster, everything can change in an instant.

"We're just getting started with Cisse, he's at 50% of his potential, he's still missing some top-level things. Let's give him time, he's doing well, we need to understand that football changes quickly."

Earlier coverage reported that Amorim had described Cisse as being "at the beginning of something" and stressed that consistency and experience would be important for the teenager's development.

Milan's record and Amorim's history with Bournemouth

Amorim has won six of his last seven Europa League group stage matches and has never lost an away game in the group stage (W4 D2). However, he has failed to beat Bournemouth in three games as Manchester United manager (D2 L1), most recently a 4-4 draw in December 2025.

Milan have won just two of their 22 away major European matches in England (D7 L13), beating Manchester United in February 2005 and Newcastle United in December 2023 on their most recent visit.

Bournemouth under Marco Rose

Asked whether he had seen any difference at Bournemouth since Marco Rose took over, Amorim said: "I feel the same rhythm and the same pressure, Rose is like that.

"They have quality, they're doing well in scouting, I don't see big differences in identity despite the changes in players. We have the responsibility to fight for the win."
