Jannik Schuster arrived from Salzburg in the summer for a fee of around £16m and is already beginning to look like a typically astute Brentford signing. Perhaps more than anything else in football, defending is about structure but, still, it was striking to compare Schuster's performance with that of the three Chelsea central defenders, who cost a combined £127m despite Levi Colwill being a youth product.
