Barcelona revive interest in Sporting right-back Iván Fresneda
Barcelona keep tabs on Sporting defender
Barcelona’s sporting department is keeping a close eye on Sporting CP right-back Iván Fresneda as the club evaluates its options at right-back ahead of a potential future move.
The situation at the Spotify Camp Nou is described as “somewhat up in the air”. Jules Koundé is reported to be out of favour, João Cancelo has been utilised on the left, and Eric García has been entrusted with starting duties despite being a central defender by trade.
With ongoing speculation surrounding a possible Koundé exit, Deco and the board are scouring the market for reinforcements. According to Mundo Deportivo, citing Portuguese outlet O Jogo:
“Iván Fresneda is once again on Barcelona’s radar. The Sporting CP right-back is on the list of potential signings for the Catalan club’s sporting management.”
Fresneda, recently called up to the Spanish senior squad by Luis de la Fuente, was heavily linked with Barcelona prior to his move from Real Valladolid to Lisbon in 2023. The 21-year-old has since established himself in Portugal and is now back in the Catalan club’s thinking as they plan for the right-back position.
