La Liga champions Barcelona have suffered a significant transfer setback in their pursuit of Manchester City midfield talisman Rodri, seeing a third formal bid rejected by the Premier League champions.

The Blaugrana intensified their efforts to sign the 2024 Ballon d'Or winner after Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong was sidelined by another long-term injury blow. Looking to reinforce Hansi Flick’s midfield options, Camp Nou sporting director Deco prioritized Rodri, who has reportedly expressed his full desire to complete a move to the Catalan giants.

However, negotiations between Barcelona and Manchester City have hit a major roadblock. Despite the 30-year-old midfielder entering the final stretch of his contract at the Etihad Stadium ahead of next summer, City's hierarchy have refused to lower their financial expectations.

According to a report from RMC Sport, the English champions are standing firm on their valuation:

"After two proposals already rejected by Manchester City, FC Barcelona have made a third offer for the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner, once again turned down by the Cityzens. The Sky Blues are sticking to their demand of 80 million euros."

With City unmoved by Barcelona's latest proposal, the Catalan club will need to weigh whether they can raise their offer to meet the €80m asking price or shift their focus to alternative midfield targets.
