Manchester United launch fan survey to shape 100,000-seat Old Trafford replacement
Manchester United have launched a fresh supporter survey inviting fans to help shape the design of their proposed 100,000-capacity stadium, as the club presses ahead with plans to replace Old Trafford with a £2billion venue.
The Premier League side first announced the plans in March 2025, with co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe stating the new ground would become the "world's greatest" football ground. Having already gathered thoughts from tens of thousands of supporters on the future of Old Trafford and the regeneration of the surrounding area, the club is now turning to more specific questions about the stadium itself.
The new questionnaire examines how to deliver a "world-class football stadium and match-day experience for all fans" while best reflecting the club's heritage and legacy. It also looks at atmosphere, transport options and the wider campus.
'A football stadium built for them'
Collette Roche, who stepped down as United's chief operating officer in January to become chief executive of the new stadium development, said the project would define the club for the next century.
"Our proposed new stadium is one of the most significant projects Manchester United will undertake in the next 100 years, and it is vital that we shape it together with our fans," Roche said. "Above all else, this is a football stadium built for them, so getting the details right matters."
She added: "That's why we are committed to thorough and transparent engagement, ensuring supporters help inform key decisions on atmosphere, affordability, accessibility and the traditions that have made Old Trafford so special for so long. Our engagement with supporters since 2024 has shown there is genuine excitement about the prospect of a new stadium, but we also recognise that some fans will have important questions and concerns. Listening to those views and ensuring they are shaping the design is a vital part of the process."
Roche concluded: "By working together, we can create a world-class football stadium that supports success on the pitch, reflects the identity of Manchester United, and gives fans a home they can be proud of for generations to come."
Who gets to respond
Supporters have until 12pm on Friday 6 November to submit their responses. The survey will be sent to season ticket holders, cup season ticket holders, official members and executive club members. It will also be distributed to supporters on the season ticket waiting list and those who have purchased hospitality at Old Trafford over the past three years.
Pressure on the pitch
The initiative arrives at an awkward moment for the club on the field. United are currently enduring a seven-match winless run, leaving manager Michael Carrick under mounting pressure ahead of Sunday's Premier League fixture against Bournemouth.
