Griezmann nets first MLS brace to fire Orlando into playoff spot as Whitecaps, Minnesota run riot

Griezmann delivers again for Orlando

Antoine Griezmann netted his first MLS brace to guide Orlando City to a 2-1 victory over Real Salt Lake and into the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. The Frenchman, who arrived from Atletico Madrid, has now registered six goal involvements in nine appearances for the Lions across all competitions, scoring in three of their four wins since his arrival.

Dominik Marczuk had put Real Salt Lake ahead at the break, but Griezmann's double turned the contest around at Exploria Stadium.

Interim head coach Martin Perelman was full of praise for his star man. “He is a great example of what a great football player can be,” Perelman said. “We are extremely lucky to be able to count on him. It is not easy to come to MLS, as a lot is asked of him, and he is doing well, but he is still human. He, too, needs time to adapt to the league. He is one of the best players in the history of the game. We need to enjoy him. We are required to enjoy being able to have him. It is an obligation.”

Five-goal showings across the league

There were two five-goal blowouts elsewhere on Saturday's card. Minnesota United romped to a 5-1 win on the road against the San Jose Earthquakes, while the Vancouver Whitecaps thumped FC Dallas 5-0.

Vancouver's emphatic victory — which included a brace for Brian White — restored them to the top of the Western Conference, two points clear of the Houston Dynamo with a game in hand.
