Eric Garcia reveals Hansi Flick wants him at full-back for Barcelona this season
Hansi Flick's plan for Eric Garcia revealed after Gamper Trophy win
Eric Garcia has confirmed exactly where Hansi Flick wants him to line up for Barcelona this season after Wednesday's Gamper Trophy victory over Al Ahly. The versatile Spanish international, who has featured at center-back, full-back and in midfield during his time at the Camp Nou, is now expected to operate on the flank for the 2025-26 campaign.
"The manager told me he'd like to try me out there this year. It's a position I'm happy in. I already told him I'd be happy wherever I played," Garcia said. "I feel good at full-back. It's a privilege for me to be one of the captains, even if it's just for now."
Garcia backs Barcelona's attacking options
The Spain star also addressed the No. 9 position, insisting Barcelona can cope without a new striker while welcoming any further additions before the transfer window closes.
"Both of our center forwards have left. I think we have plenty of options up front. Anthony (Gordon) can play there, Karim (Adeyemi), Rapha has played there; even Lamine," he added. "Hamza is doing very well. Luckily, it's the sporting director's job, not mine. We accept what we have, which is already a lot. If someone else comes, they'll be welcome."
With his versatility and comfort in the role, Garcia appears to be Flick's first choice at right-back ahead of Jules Koundé heading into the new season.
