Barcelona have intensified their pursuit of Manchester City midfielder Rodri, tabling an improved offer worth up to €65 million after their opening bid was firmly rebuffed by the Premier League champions.

An insight into the details behind the Blaugrana's latest proposal has come to light, with widespread confirmation that the Catalan club have upped the financial stakes in their efforts to bring the former Ballon d'Or winner to Camp Nou.

Contract accord already in place

Rodri is now widely expected to link up with Hansi Flick's Barcelona before the summer is out. After making clear his preference for the Spanish champions over arch rivals Real Madrid, the two parties quickly reached an accord on the terms of a personal contract.

The Camp Nou brass, in turn, have since set about finding a similar agreement with their counterparts at the Etihad. Having seen their first proposal emphatically turned down, Barcelona returned with an improved package over the last 24 hours.

The breakdown of the offer

According to journalist Xavi Hernández Navarro, the new figures on the table break down as follows:

'€55 million fixed, €5m variable for matches and €5m variable for titles. €65m in total.'

It is added that 'the variables for matches are de facto €5 million guaranteed. The other €5m up to €65m are more demanding.'

That means the deal carries a guaranteed element of roughly €60 million, with the final €5 million dependent on meeting tougher performance and trophy-related targets.

Whether Manchester City accept the revised proposal remains to be seen, but Barcelona's determination to land one of the world's elite midfielders appears undiminished as the summer transfer window enters its decisive phase.
