Barcelona sell midfielder Tommy Marqués to Braga in €12m deal with buyback clause
Barcelona have officially confirmed the departure of promising midfielder Tommy Marqués to Portuguese outfit SC Braga in a transfer package worth up to €12 million.
The young Spaniard, who made two La Liga appearances last season after breaking through into first-team contention, has completed a permanent move to Portugal, putting pen to paper on a long-term contract running through until 2031. He has been assigned the No. 16 shirt for the Arsenalistas.
While Marqués had previously looked poised to challenge for minutes under manager Hansi Flick, Barcelona's midfield restructuring and recent high-profile maneuvers—most notably the arrival of Rodri—heavily restricted his immediate path to regular first-team football. Consequently, the starlet opted to seek guaranteed playing time away from Catalonia.
In an official statement, Barcelona confirmed the terms of the deal, which crucially includes protection clauses for the future:
“Agreement reached between FC Barcelona and SC Braga for the transfer of the player Tommy Marqués. The Club has included a buyback option and a sell-on percentage in the transfer. FC Barcelona would like to wish Tommy Marqués all the best in this new chapter and appreciates his commitment throughout his spell at the Club.”
Braga's raid on Barcelona's youth ranks follows a familiar pattern, with the Portuguese side having previously recruited forward Pau Víctor from the Blaugrana. With buyback and sell-on clauses firmly inserted into the agreement, Barcelona retain significant control should the midfielder fulfill his high ceiling in the Primeira Liga.
