Kaide Gordon

The Guardian revisits its Next Generation 2021 cohort five years later, contrasting Brighton’s Jack Hinshelwood, the understated ball-playing midfielder from a footballing family, with Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Youssoufa Moukoko. While Moukoko burst onto the scene as the youngest Bundesliga player and scorer and later struggled with injuries and a loan spell in Turkey, Hinshelwood has quietly amassed 67 Premier League appearances, a World Cup longlist place and a rising market value.

A wider look at the Guardian's Next Generation 2021 list shows only Jack Hinshelwood (Brighton) and Kaide Gordon (Liverpool) still at their original Premier League clubs, with the other 18 picks dispersed to the US, Qatar and Hong Kong. Of the 60 world talents, 24 have won senior caps — led by Julio Enciso and Gavi and including switch-hitter Livano Comenencia for Curaçao — while Adrian Blake has carved out a career at Utrecht after a gamble on the Eredivisie.
