Manchester United have moved swiftly to appoint Eva Olid as their new head coach following the departure of Marc Skinner on Monday. The Spanish manager has signed a two-year contract, which includes an option for a further 12 months.

Olid arrives at Old Trafford with a strong reputation as a "progressive and innovative leader." She spent five years at Hearts, a tenure that peaked in May when she led the side to a historic first Scottish Premier League title. Additionally, she guided Hearts to their first-ever domestic showpiece match, the Scottish Women's Cup final in 2024, where they ultimately fell 2-0 to Rangers.

Speaking on her appointment, Olid expressed her enthusiasm for the project: "The opportunity to become head coach of Manchester United Women is a dream come true. The club has outstanding infrastructure and everything we need to achieve our ambitions. We have an excellent training facility, an academy that is already producing players capable of performing in a competitive first team and an exceptional group of support staff."

Olid added that she is eager to maximize the potential of the current squad, stating: "There is already so much talent within our squad, and I am excited to work with the players to support them to fulfil their immense potential."

A Shift in Direction

The appointment follows the exit of Marc Skinner after five years in charge. Reports suggest Skinner's departure was linked to dissatisfaction with the club's recruitment process. During the current transfer window, United have only secured the signatures of defender Andrea Medina and goalkeeper Janina Leitzig, as the club shifts its strategy toward targeting younger players to ensure long-term sustainability.

Olid will make her competitive debut on the touchline on September 4, when United face London City Lionesses in the Women's Super League.
